We slept quite well next to the roaring Mo Chhu River at 4960'; and I didn't even wake up as a heavy downpour thundered on the tent canvas. Although we are out in the field, we still had to get up very early at 3:45 and set off at 5 AM. We drove down the valley where Wangdi let us off to walk about three miles on a clear sunny morning, logging in new birds and seeing better views of old ones.
When we got back for breakfast at nine I changed out of my long underwear as it was so warm, and found a small leech on my tan sock. I flicked him off, happy that I had gotten to him so quickly...but then a red patch of blood began to appear and it grew and grew. The anticoagulant the leech injects is really effective and the way they can attach themselves to you through thick socks is amazing! There was nothing I could do at that moment as we were leaving, so I had to wait until lunch to clean up the grossness.

We were driven up the road this time as David remembered that the trees overhang the road and it would be more comfortable in the shade, but a road-widening project has begun and all the shade was gone. We came upon a crew working on the road and turned back rather than risk being trapped as they were blasting. David led us slowly down the road but we couldn't find any bird action - the quiet time for birds in mid-day seems to come earlier here.

We ate lunch at 1 PM - another good and varied spread of fish, dumplings, scalloped potatoes. red rice and various veggies. After lunch we drove back past the dzong and turned off into the town of Punakha and on into the pretty Zangtho Pelri Hotel where we got a pretty basic room, but managed to clean up. There was wifi, but quite weak and my blog of two days ago wouldn't load. The List, dinner and bed
